Even Colombo is a business city of Sri Lanka; it has several interesting things and tourist attractions within. This is one of the attraction in Colombo. The biggest open nature park in Colombo, Viharamahadhevi Park. This park is situated in Colombo 07, Just opposite of Colombo Town Hall Building.
When British ruling this park was originally called as
Victoria Park. But it was renamed in the 1950s as Viharamahadhevi Park.
It’s best to visit during the spring in March, April and
early May of every year. In this spring season its superb flowering trees
started to bloom. Visitors are attracted because of its floral gardens,
fountains and playgrounds. In May Vesak is celebrated in Sri Lanka.
There is big gold Buddha’s statue is stablished in this
park. This God Buddha’s golden statue will be decorated very nicely in this
season. Lot of people will come to see these decorations from several places.
Due to the pandemic the park in empty without visitors these
days. Still the park is maintained very nicely and its remains green
everywhere.
Queen Viharamahadhevi’s statue also installed in this park.
Queen Viharamahadhevi is the mother of King Duttagemunu.
Her name is given to this park to honor her and King Duttagemunu.
People also showing interest to know about her and see her
statue while visiting this park.
There are lot of memorial statues installed in this park
such as statue of Anagarika Dharmapala, statue of Lalith Athulathmudali, statue
of Felix Dias Bandaranaike, and statue of Frederick Richard Senanayaka.
There is a colorful play station in the middle of this park and
big safe open space where children can play safely. Also there are some tubes
and stone steps which are giving more excitement to children.There are some
places where children can swing.
Other than this play area there is a small lake with Suspension
bridge, aquarium, museum and many more entertaining factors available in this
park.

Also there are bicycle riding lanes available around the
park. If you want, you can bring a bicycle from home. otherwise you can hire a
bicycle in the park itself. We have read
somewhere earlier there used to be a cricket ground in this park.
